Supat Ieamsupapong successfully defended his PhD on August 25th 2016. His dissertation research, on "Mechanisms of Iron Carbonate Formation on Mild Steel under Controlled Water Chemistry Conditions", has provided significant new insights into how steel microstructure affects development of corrosion product layers and the protectiveness that they confer. His experiments required design and construction of a revolutionary new glass cell setup to control water chemistry, facilitating simulation of environmental conditions consistent with those encountered in the field. His research will be showcased at NACE2017 and manuscripts are being prepared for publication in peer reviewed journals. Supat is returning to Thailand to take up a position as an Assistant Professor in the Department of Production Engineering at King Mongkut’s University of Technology, North Bangkok. His research focus will be materials degradation. All at ICMT wish him well for the future.
