Dr. Bert Pots is an internationally recognized materials and corrosion expert. He has been employed with the Shell Group for more than 30 years. His expertise covers a range of topics, such as: materials, corrosion, asset integrity, development and application of new technologies for multi-phase flow, gas transportation, polymer flow, and LNG (Liquefied Natural Gas). Much of Dr.Pots’ expertise was developed from work in many oil and gas fields in various places in the world both offshore and onshore, including The Netherlands, Oman, Nigeria, UK, Denmark, Norway, Brunei, Malaysia, USA, Canada, Venezuela, Philippines, Abu Dhabi, Egypt, etc. He has been involved in the design and development of almost all major worldwide projects in Shell, spanning a wide range of corrosive conditions and corrosion
control options. Dr. Pots has trained most of the current generation of Shell materials and corrosion engineers, as well as, corrosion engineers from Chevron, Petronas and Petrobras. Much of his work has found its way in Shell guidelines.
Dr. Pots is currently Director of Bert Pots Corrosion Consultancy, providing services for Shell operating units in the UK and The Netherlands, as well as BP Exploration Operating Company.
Dr. Pots has joined the ICMT for 2 months (September and October) for three consecutive years (2012, 2013, and 2014). Each year he has shared his extensive industrial experience with staff and students. For his contributions to the science of CO2 corrosion and multiphase flow Dr. Pots was appointed Senior Research Fellow by the Institute. Cooperation is hopefully continuing this fall, when the students and staff of the ICMT hopefully will again have a unique opportunity to host Dr. Bert Pots. Thank You Bert for all your help and support!
